Issue Overview
Maine has some of the highest electrical costs in the Nation and the second highest in New England. So much of our commerce relies upon gas and oil. Like much of the Northeast, Maine is not self-sufficient as we depend on Canada and elsewhere for our energy. Our utility providers provide little to no relief to Maine taxpayers and Maine utility consumers. We ought to be the masters of our own domain as it relates to electric and other utility costs. We need to take the future into our own hands.
The Starboard’s Solution
A renaissance in renewable energy including tidal power, nuclear energy, and a reinvestment in natural gas. Technology has come so far, and we need to embrace the newer, cleaner, and bondable forms of energy including nuclear. Maine has the largest coastline in the nation, and the state is vast with untapped waterways to provide hydroelectricity.
